What is the Texas Wild Rice Festival?

The Texas Wild Rice Festival is an annual festival that takes place at Sewell Park at Texas State University. The festival celebrates the conservation of the San Marcos River and the many organisms which it contains. This year of 2014, the festival holds musical acts, poetry, art, storytelling, and the presentation of the SXSW-winning film, Yakona, a documentary about the San Marcos River and its habitat. There are also hiking, biking, and kayaking meet-ups in celebration of the river. The event is free and open to all ages.
